I hit the theatre twice over Thanksgiving break, viewing both Twilight and Australia.
I hadn't read any of the Twilight series, so all I knew going into the theatre was that it was:
1) about vampires
2) starred the guy that played Cedric in Harry Potter
3) it made $7,000,000 in its first weekend. Nice.
I wound up liking it; I tried not to, due to its immense sucess with just about every female under the age of 25 in the world. The script was quite good, and I found myself smiling in the dark of the theatre at some of the quips and lines. Even more enjoyable was watching the actors have full rein on the screen as vampires; the scene in Biology where he can't stand her, the baseball scene, etc...if their depiction of a vampire family hadn't been so intriguing and hilarious, I probably would have hated the film.
The usual expression on Jasper's face "He always looks like he's in pain..."
reminded me alot of:
I kinda burst out laughing every time he was the character in focus on the screen. Reminded me of when Scissorhands got alcohol in his system. "Lemonade?"
All hail Jasper, long lost relative of Edward Scissorhands. haha.
I did find it the movie's female lead (Bella) to be ingrateful, wreckless and generally depressing, but the amusing antics of her supernatural companions were a good counter balance.

Australia was Epic. Huge. Beautiful. Long. Emotional. Stunning. Breathtaking.
Two words: The cinematography. Jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
I initially thought that it was just gonna be a basic love story:
"Hi, I'm a muscle-bound Outback guy!" *dazzle*
"Hi, I'm a rich English woman!" *swoon*
"Let's go through alot of drama and live happily ever after!"
But I was actually pretty intregued by the story; though you don't really realize it at first, the story has an underlying, heart-snatching tale of the half aboriginal child, Nulla. I mean, the love story is beautifully written, but the overall message of the film goes alot deeper than "love conquers all."
I can't word it without making it sound idiotic, so I suggest going to see it yourself. Great film.
And enjoy the scene where she first sees the Kangaroos. I laughed my face off.
